About Us
CHRS (Clay heat Recovery Systems) was founded with a single missions: to revolutionise renewable heating and cooling through an invisible, scalable technology that harnesses the untapped thermal energy stored in clay. Developed from a background in Oil and Gas Instrumentation, STEM innovation, and engineering problem-solving, CHRS is designed to deliver 50 – 100 years of reliable hot water and heating, without visual impact, without heavy maintenance, and at a cost that undercuts traditional heating systems. Unlike wind or solar, CHRS works silently below the surface, capturing and recharging thermal energy continuously. Our patented modular clay-based systems integrate with proven district heating technology, ensuring consistent performance for homes, businesses, and infrastructure. CHRS is positioned to transform renewable heating infrastructure across the UK and globally – replacing gas, reducing grid demand, and meeting Net Zero targets at scale.
Our Vision
We aim to make CHRS the standard for renewable heating in housing developments, commercial sites, and municipal projects – delivering an affordable, invisible, long-life solution that removes reliance on fossil fuels.
Meet the Team
Alexander Grose – Founder & Chief Operating Director
With a career in offshore instrumentation, renewable systems integration, and STEM-based innovation, Alexander developed CHRS to solve the inefficiencies of existing heating technology. He brings technical expertise, a deep understanding of thermal systems, and the vision to take CHRS from concept to global standard.
Steve Porter – Operations & Deployment Manager
Steve oversees the planning and coordination of CHRS installation projects managing supply chains, HDD contractors, and installation teams to deliver turnkey solutions.
Gary Hughes – Lead Software & Controls Engineer
Responsible for the CHRS SACS (Smart Advanced Control System), Gary develops the automation, monitoring, and loop-balancing logic that keeps CHRS operating at peak efficiency.
Dr. Sarah Taylor – Head Of Research & Development
A specialist in thermal systems and geothermal modelling, Sarah leads our testing and optimisation programmes, including advanced CHRS Fluid R&D and long-term performance validation.
Ewan Richardson – Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Ewan ensures that every CHRS installation meets rigorous safety, environmental, and compliance standards, including alignment with UK, EU and global HSE regulations.
Alan Bennett – HR & Compliance Manager
Paul manages HR policy, contractor onboarding, training, and certification processes, ensuring that CHRS-trained teams operate to the highest professional standards.
